Healthy
Ways to Survive a Break Up
Surviving a breakup may
seem impossible. This person filled so much of your free
time. He or she was there to keep you company. You never
had to worry about going out alone, because your partner
was at your side. You miss their humor, or smile, or
whatever little thing they used to do that you simply
adored.
This may sound harsh, but I assure you, you will thank me
later. Get over it. A relationship takes two people to both
work and fail. Before
healing a broken heart, you must learn that you are still
one of those two separate people. You were your own person
before the relationship began and you will be now that it has
ended. You can survive a break up.
That does not mean you cannot cry or grieve the death of your
partnership. By all means, do so, but do not prolong it. Get
the tears and words out of your system. It may help to talk to
a friend or, if you prefer, write it all down. No one has to
read it, ever, and it helps provide a release of emotions. When
you are done, you can always have fun burning the paper,
anyway!
Now that you have cried yourself to sleep a couple of nights,
it is time to get on with your life. This is a difficult time
and you should be doing all you can to stay busy. Plan to visit
with friends, maybe friends you did not get to see often
because you were too busy nurturing your relationship. While
dealing with a breakup you can reconnect with people you may
have lost touch with in the meantime.
Life should be all about you right now. Do you want to know how
to survive a break up? Start bettering yourself. Is there a
hobby or sport you have been interested in taking up but never
had the time to? Devote your newly acquired free time to
learning and practicing a new skill. Perhaps you have been
dying to learn French or Italian. Now is a great time to start,
whether you register for official classes or pick up a video or
computer learning software.
You now have time, which is a very valuable commodity. Why not
busy yourself while doing something that may improve someone
else’s life by volunteering for a charity? You could work to
raise money or actually go and do work within a facility (such
as a soup kitchen or humane society). There is nothing more
satisfying than helping someone else. If you want to feel
appreciated, that is the way to do it!
Helpful relationship break up advice does not have to be
complicated. The best advice you can get while dealing with a
break up is this: busy yourself! Spend time on things you were
not able to before. You can help others by donating your time
to a cause. If you have always wanted something, like a big
screen television or a new car, put your time towards a part
time job and start saving up! Setting goals will help you feel
more confident about yourself while you work on personal
development.
Coping with a break up is never easy, but you can do it.
Approach things in a positive manner and an understanding that
when life throws things at you, catch them and use them to
better yourself.
