What Do Guys Want: A Basic Guide

Every man and woman is unique, with his or her own preferences and tastes. However, there are certain aspects that almost every man desires in a relationship. Some of these have been in place for thousands of years, developed by nature. Understand what it is a man wants from a relationship and you will have a better idea of how to handle your own situation so that you can both be happy.

It is a fact; women tend to be more emotional. Men on the other hand, have a harder time expressing how they feel and are less inclined to do so.  This can lead to issues.  In some cases, a woman may expect a man to react the same way she does. When he does not, the result can be frustrating for both parties. He does not seem to understand while she seems out of touch with him. 

What men want from women may seem impossible to decipher, but it is really quite simple. Men are naturally meant to be hunters and protectors.  What men really want tends to reflect this.They want to feel like the powerful hunter, the protector of the family. They do not want to be treated like a girlfriend. Although this is not the only thing a man needs, it is one of the most basic and greatly helps him be happy and find a healthy balance in the relationship.

That being said, what do men want in a woman? Appreciation in general is a good start. Who does not want to feel appreciated? However, a man also wants a woman who admires his masculinity. This will satisfy one of his most basic needs, the need to be a man. It may sound very simple, but this is a great way to lay a solid foundation for both sides to find enjoyment and happiness out of the relationship.

As I said, each man is an individual and will have his own preferences. These come after the most basic needs. Now that the primal question of what do men want in a relationship has been answered, consider the opposite. What is it that drives a man crazy (in a negative way)?

A woman who is overly clingy tends to be a turn off.  For the most part, men are more interested in strong willed and independent women. They are not looking for someone who cannot fend for herself. While he may want to act the protector and hunter, he does not want to have to take care of her every time the slightest issue makes her fall to pieces. This sort of behavior can get old very quickly. Just because he wants to be seen as manly does not mean he desires someone who is completely and utterly weak.

Despite stereotypes, most men want a solid relationship. They want to know they can rely on their partner. This security is beneficial to both man and woman.  Just like women, men want to know they can trust their partner and that she will be there for them, even if he is not the emotional type.

What men want in a relationship can vary from situation to situation. However, there are a few key components that have been in place since human beings started walking on two legs. These most primal needs still exist in the modern man. What men really want is to have both a healthy relationship and their masculinity.
